@kd, about The Tourist, I didn't agree with what is being said about it myself, because I really think they marketed this wrong. & I wouldn't call it a flop yet. It actually made more at the box office it's first weekend than LAOD did. With the severe bad weather wreaking havoc in the North & MidWest, I would be willing to bet a lot of people that may have normally gone to the movies could not.
I saw Narnia Saturday & loved it. I am a huge Ben Barnes fan & was so glad he didn't do the fake Spanish accent he did in the 2nd one. That really bugged me. He has such a beautiful voice with his normal British accent, he needs to just stick to that.
@mo, I saw Tangled week before last & totally adored it. I think it's one of Disney's best besides TS3. Zachary Levi is too cute, he did a great job in it & I had tears in my eyes too in a couple of scenes.

@mo: TANGLED was amazing. I was sort of disappointed at the artistic style of the film - I hoped it would have been more like a moving oil paint, but instead it came out more standard 3-D animation like. BUT, that being said, it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the film. It was a great choice and execution for Disney's 50th. Personally, I loved The Princess and the Frog more, but Tangled's songs were WONDERFUL. "I see the light" is one of my FAVORITES. Vanessa - I will definitely rent The Tourist, but as for seeing it in theaters, I'm not particularly convinced. I heard it was more of a love story than anything. Voyage of the Dawn Treader was great. Ben Barnes was delightful eye candy and Edmund is looking pretty cute these days. BUT SHOW STEALER WAS EUSTACE...MOSTLY DRAGON!EUSTACE. I remember crying at the end of VotDT when Reepegee enters Aslan's land. (In the book it was more dramatic!) I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE LAST BATTLE. TOO BAD SUSAN WON'T BE THERE. I'm actually more of a fan of Peter's actor, although his long hair atm if FUG. OMG, P&P the book is one of my favorites. It's HILARIOUS. Most people think Jane Austen's novels are straight up romances, but I read them more like comedies. The way Austen phrases her criticisms, how subtle they are, and her wonderfully colorful characters are just a joy to read. Every chapter I'm laughing more and more. ALAN RICKMAN. I'm excited for Emma purely for Gweneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor. I loved Paltrow in Sliding Doors. Her British accent was PERFECT.

Nothing in the movie worked for me. I really wanted to like it too because I love frogs, alligators, and New Orleans culture, but this movie totally didn't do it for me. It really irks me that she was added as an official Disney princess and in some cases booted Jasmine off some products. I LOVE Jasmine and she gets no love which is sad because she's one of like 4 who are actually princess by blood. Well maybe 5 now since they added Rapunzel.

Can't agree, bb, but to each their own. I am in LOVE with the Princess and the Frog. But Tangled might suit your tastes more, so you should still give it a try. Jasmine was the HBIC before Mulan. Gherl, she was FIERCE.

I saw Tron on Friday.
Weak storyline, blah acting, Vivid/Stunning special effects and cinematography, cool updated Disney sign...
Overall, Tron was "WHOA!" and "cool".

OK, first, I want to post something here about James Franco since I thought he did magnificent in 127 Hours & totally deserves his GG & SAG noms.
Here are a couple of scans from my newest EW mag that show him for the best of 2010 & he made their bullseye of the year for 2010. That was a very cool thing to do, EW.
Again, these are both clickable thumbnails, so click thru each twice to get them at their biggest:
Edited to add this article I got today:James Franco talks Oscars and why he took the job: 'Well, why not?': EW exclusiveNews that James Franco would be co-hosting the Academy Awards surprised some people, but no one more than Franco himself. The actor told EW that Oscar producer Bruce Cohen, who previously worked with him on Milk, had told him that he was hoping the actor would do something for the ceremony, but Franco never expected the “something” would be hosting the whole shebang with Anne Hathaway. “When he asked me to host, I was very, very surprised, and my initial reaction was ‘No,’” Franco said. “Then I thought about it and I thought, well, why not? Because I’ll look bad? Well, I don’t care.”
He admits that another part of his rationale for accepting the gig was the knowledge that other people thought it was a bad idea, mainly because he was in contention for a Best Actor nomination. “When we finally met and discussed it in person, all my representatives were saying, ‘No! Of course not!’” he remembers. “So that always sparks something in me. So I said, ‘Yes, of course!’ Because that reaction that they have is based on conventional wisdom of what makes a good career. And that can be boring — really boring.”
What exactly will he be doing on stage at the Kodak Theatre on Feb. 27? The producers are keeping mum, and Franco doesn’t exactly know quite yet, but he says he isn’t nervous about it. “I’m front and center, but … I feel confident.” And even if it doesn’t go over as well as they hope, Franco’s not worried. “I’m happy to take the criticism. Even if it’s ‘The Worst Oscars Ever,’ I don’t care. It’s one night of the year.”

Second, I want to post this other scan from my EW mag for the best of 2010 showing 2 of my favorite shows, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart & The Colbert Report, when they came together to put on undoubtedly one of the coolest things ever done, "Rally to Restore Sanity &/or Fear" in Washington DC this year. Plus one of the once again emaciated, but brilliant Christian Bale from The Fighter which I am planning to go see this week.
Again, this is a clickable thumbnail:

& lastly, I got to see Black Swan on Saturday, what a movie that was. NP totally deserves the GG & SAG noms she got for the movie. I think she may very well win both. It is indeed a very dark movie & she gave an incredible performance. I won't say any more at this time since anything else I could say would be spoilers.
I also managed to sneak into "How Do You Know" afterwards, of which I am truly grateful I didn't pay to see. I really wanted to only see it for Paul Rudd, who I have always liked since he was in Clueless long ago. It was a mediocre film at best. I wouldn't even pay to rent it. But if it came on cable that you already have, it's OK for that. He was good & so were the other actors, even RW herself, (even if I hate to admit it), but the movie itself just lacked in several ways.
So, that's a true "skip it" imho.
I have to say I am still anxiously looking forward to seeing Tron though, since I was a huge fan of the original long ago. I totally love Jeff Bridges & from what I've seen, Garrett Hedlund is a really good actor. I will come back & offer my opinion after I see it this week.

I echo your sentiments about his deserving nominations. He completely floored me by his performance. That movie is at the top of my list right now. Also-I read most of the book and it was good. I also bought the DVD of when Tom Brokaw did a special on Aron and it really helped me get a better idea of what actually happened. He & Aron went back to Blue John six months after the accident and you get to see the actual place, interviews with Aron's family, and how he actually escaped. Its astonishing! There is a psychological aspect to the whole thing that I just cannot get over. And I can't believe he didn't just pass out after the amputation and die. I know I would have. The mental clarity he was able to maintain just completely baffles me.

I AM TOTALLY FREAKING EXCITED FOR THE FIGHTER. Homg, I need to go see it like NOW.
And I can't find a showing of Black Swan in my city! I THINK there is one playing in the next city so I'll try to go and see it then. The script was excellent, so I have high hopes for it.
Vanessa, Tron was just frickin' cool. 'Nuff said..and the graphics were way better than the 1980s version. LOL.

I just rented Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Charlie St. Cloud. Neither shattered my world like 127 Hours, but Scott Pilgrim was sort of epic and funny and I liked it more than I thought I would. I'm in the process of watching Charlie St. Cloud for the second time right now. Its pretty good. I like seeing Zac in a fairly more mature role than his usual HSM and such. (not that I ever watched any...the only other Zac movie I've seen is 17 Again, which I mostly just watch to see him) But it was a decent movie and its never a bad thing to stare at Zac Efron for 2 hours.
I also rented Going the Distance the other day and it was good. I mean obviously, you can't expect much from a rom-com but for what it was, GTD was a refreshing & modern take. I can't believe how much Drew has changed in the past couple years -- she's thin, she's hot, she's got a quirky on & off BF. I've never seen her play anyone like Erin so that was cool.
That is all...I dunno if it would be worth it to make a Rental thread or not. Another one I'm anxious to rent is Inception. I'm embarrassed to tell you I had no idea JGL was in it. I still love Leo from my earlier, more embarrassing years, but I def. would've made it a point to see it had I know JGL was in it. Its a problem I have, Christ sakes I didn't know it was Jake's birthday till nearly 24 hours later. Have mercy, its Christmas!

INCEPTION. IS. AMAZING. My favorite film of the year, hands down. I never saw Charlie St. Cloud, but I was intrigued (mainly - and I don't care how dorky it makes me sound - because I have a soft spot for Efron). I haven't seen Going the Distance, either. Maybe we should start a rental thread! (BTW, I feel like all I ever do around here is say, "I haven't seen that!" This thread has brought home the point that I don't see nearly as many movies as I used to... )

I have a soft spot for Efron Efron fans, represent!! My cousin and I have been infatuated with hi since 17 Again. And, I have to admit, I may have watched a couple HSM clips on Hulu last night...I neither confirm nor deny. Also, I'm thrilled he's no longer with Vanessa Hudgens. Though, there's some merit to being with the same girl for 4 years and breaking up before any scandals started. Great so he's hot AND allegedly a decent guy.
