Anyone see 127 Hours yet?? I saw it last night. Must discuss!! Not yet, Katie, but am planning to go asap. I love James Franco, (I probably already said that somewhere) & remember when that happened to that guy, so I already know the story. One of my friends that went with me to see LAOD today saw it last night too & she told me it was really good.
SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT READ THE NEXT SENTENCES IF YOU DON'T WANT ANY SPOILERS ON THIS MOVIE....I read about how graphic the scene is of him cutting off his arm, & that some people couldn't handle it & got sick or passed out even. I have a pretty strong stomach coming from a family that had farms & we had to do stuff, (like butchering hogs), that would make most people turn green. So, it probably won't bother me as much as some.

SPOILER!!
It is VERY graphic and I threw up. Seriously!! But aside from that it was an amazing film and James did a stellar job. Now I am totally obsessed with Aron's story. I bought the book today and will probably start reading it during winter break.
Chime in all, when you see it.

I used to be a big Tim Burton fan, but then his films and his style got to be sort of repetitious, especially his more recent animated films. Plus Alice in Wonderland sucked big time. JD and Leonardo DiCaprio are some of my favorites. My favorite Leo film, of all time, has to be Man in the Iron Mask though. Titanic is second. You know Leo was cast as Gatsby in the remake of The Great Gatsby? And Carey Mulligan is Daisy...and TOBEY MAGUIRE IS NICK CARRAWAY. This will either be totally amazing or a total mock fest. I'm scared. Well, KD, I guess that's where you & I will have to agree to disagree. I really liked TB's Alice. & JD was an excellent Mad Hatter as well as Anne being a cool as shit White Queen. & let's not forget Helena's unbelievable Red Queen.
As far as Leo goes, I totally love Man in the Iron Mask too. That was an incredible performance by Leo. I had to buy that DVD when it came out. & I agree on Titanic. Totally loved that movie too. Leo & Kate were wonderful together. But of course I cried my eyes out when he died. I had not heard about TGG, that will be interesting seeing Leo in the lead & Maguire & Carey in it too. I love her now. She was excellent in An Education. I had previously only seen her in Pride & Prejudice, My Boy Jack, & Brothers, but all of those were not major parts. I have a copy of Northanger Abbey she was in a few years ago, but have not watched it yet. & I laughed out loud at what you said about it. I think I have to agree there.

I expected the amputation scene to be much more graphic and intense. I was actually a little disappointed with how mild it was, in my opinion. I hardly blinked at all. LOL.

MY COPY OF MAN IN THE IRON MASK IS SO OLD IT'S VHS. I haven't watched much of Carey Mulligan either. I did like her in An Education, however. I don't know if I see her as a Daisy Buchanan though. Depends on her acting chops. I'm excited for Maguire as Nick Carraway, mostly.

I hardly blinked at all. LOL. BAHA!! That's hilarious!! I'm wuss, I am aware of that. My cousin went with me and she had no trouble. I heard wincing around the theater but I'm pretty sure I was the only one who hurled. Honestly, it was the sound effect that did most of it...course all the dark red blood didn't help matters either. Kudos to you for being a far tougher woman than myself!

I think the fear and exhilaration portions of my brain are dead. Last summer in Macau, I bungee jumped freestyle (that means alone and with only a foot harness) off the Macau tower. The platform was 900+ feet off the ground. I hardly blinked then too. So give yourself more credit. I'm just sort of an odd ball.
The sound effects were terrifying though. I loved that twang they used for the cutting of the nerves.

I'm waiting to rent so I can fast-forward and/or run out of the room for the worst part (I would throw up, too...and probably pass out afterwards). I'd love to know what you think of the book! I was *thisclose* to buying it the other day but I just started the Stieg Larsson trilogy and decided to take my reading obligations one step at a time. I second the Titanic and Man in the Iron Mask (and general Leo) love. And now, to actually contribute to the theme of this thread (which I don't think I've done so far), there were previews for The King's Speech and Jane Eyre before L&OD and I will *so* be at the theater to see both. At a time that is not now, I will look up trailers for each and post accordingly. ;D

They are all getting major critical acclaim. They say Noomi Rapace is excellent as Lisbeth.
I watched the trailer for Jane Eyre & totally agree, that is on my list of movies to see when it's out. I haven't seen the one for The King's Speech yet, but it is getting rave reviews, so I'm sure it will be on my must see list too. Besides, I love Colin & HBC anyway.

I'm just finishing (tonight) the last book in the trilogy, The girl who kicked the hornet's nest. I got to say they are excellent books. After I have some distance from the books, I will watch the movie(s). I heard Noomi Rapace underwent a physical transformation, losing weight, toning, and she actually got her eyebrows, etc. pierced. I don't know if she got a tattoo.

Vanessa. Parasailing is exquisite entertainment! I've parasailed in Catalina Island and in Thailand and both times were so much fun. Definitely take the chance when it comes~
I'm re-reading the Martian Chronicles for sci-fi fans out there. That and the last book in the Ender series.
