OK, guys, I am starting this thread for those of us that have been lucky enough to see it already. I feel bad for those that are overseas & have to wait one or more months, but I can't wait to discuss it until then. OMFG, I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! This is Jake's best in my opinion since BBM. He was in the zone & the chemistry between him & Anne was in spades. If I didn't know better I would truly believe those two are in love in real life. & WHY THE HELL AREN'T THEY ANYWAY??? After seeing them together like they were in this, they definitely should be. Damn. & how many of you agree with me on that? & yeah, Katie, Jake was hot in this & it was very delicious seeing him naked the little bit we got, I would have preferred a little more actually. From all the hype surrounding it, I went in expecting to see both of them nude throughout half the movie & that wasn't the case at all. One more thing, I absolutely fell totally head over heels in love with Jamie Randall. I thought I was nuts about Prince Dastan, well, he just got put in 2nd place today.
Apart from Gylls & his gorgeousness, the story was very good & I am very surprised at ANY negative reviews. WTF??? I wonder if those guys saw the same movie I did.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA! Who are you and what did you do with Vanessa?! This movie must be the BOMB if it dethroned Prince Dastan from Vanessa's hierarchy!!! OH I'm SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT. I have bad news though, V... I didn't get to see it today!!! I was running out of time in the day from all my Thanksgiving Prep and only had enough time for one movie! I ended up only watching Tangled, WHICH WAS AMAZING AND SO GOOD AND A TOTAL WINNER FOR THE 50th FOR DISNEY. BUT, I will see LaOD next weekend for sure (dec. 4/5th), so I'll be late to the party. ): BUT COME, FELLOW ISJ MEMBERS, COME AND SHARE YOU JOY ABOUT THE FILM HERE AND LET ME BATH IN THE POSITIVITY TO GET ME HYPED. ONTD is having a field day over Jake's nakedness. It makes me lol. WAS THE NAKEDNESS GOOD, BTW?

Well, KD, totally understandable, I am planning to see Tangled myself. I am a total Disney freak. & I love Zachary Levi, so it will be double good for me.
& forget those damn critics, especially the trolls at imdb & the ones at Rotten Tomatoes really piss me off. They are a bunch of morons, imho.
So, anyway, I can't wait to hear what you think of it. & I would have loved to have seen Gylls be naked a little more than he was, but he looked beautiful in this, absolutely. It was very tastefully done too, Anne has got a gorgeous body & they didn't make any of the sex scenes too graphic either. Actually it was more insinuated than graphic or the aftermath when they were laying next to each other talking or holding each other. There really weren't THAT many scenes of them nude or screwing, like all the articles & videos made it sound. & their chemistry like I said before was phenomenal. I am going to see it again this weekend with some girlfriends that couldn't see it today. Can't wait. This one will be one I will see over & over again, I can tell you that.

I grew sick of listening to interviews of LaOD, like I did of PoP. All the interviewers ask the same damn, stupid questions. I feel like if I've listened to all of them. Nearly every interview I read had an emphasis on the "nudity and sexual content". I mean, I get it. Anne and Jake show tits and ass. Can we focus on the movie?
And YES, I knew LaOD would be good. I was SO disheartened and shocked to hear all the negative reviews! I'm glad that it seems to be getting some more positive reviews now.
And I have to ask Vanessa - did you cry? I hear its a tear jerker.

Yep, I did. I did not sob like I thought I would though. It is not as much of a tear jerker as I was led to believe, it is just extremely emotional in parts. & Jake has a way about him that can make me cry at the drop of a hat. It is just such a good movie, period. I know what you mean about all the interviews. I watched all of them so I could hopefully see Jake be his funny self which he did in them somewhat, but all of the journalists in the press junket interviews did ask the same stupid questions & of course all they seemed interested in was the nudity & sex anyway. OK, go see it asap & I want to hear your opinion.
BTW, I just found your "Getting to Know Each Other" thread. Sorry I missed it before, & I am replying on it now.

*MY REVIEW CONTAINS MUCH MORE SPECIFICS THAN VANESSA'S*
Yeah so I am definitely seeing it again. And I too got so sick of all the nudity questions in the interviews as I know Jake and Anne did too. Vanessa is right on...it's nothing at all what it is made out to be in all the interviews. And it's nothing distasteful or raunchy and not nearly in as much of the movie as you are lead to believe from interviews.
Jakes character is fucking adorable. I really loved how this film genre allowed us to see a different side of him -- something I hope he will do more. I really
admire Jakes commitment to doing projects where he has to go beyond what he knows.
I didn't get emotional as I expected I would but that's probably why and life is kicking my ass right now so I wasn't able to give the movie the emotional investment it deserved.
Anne did a PHENOMENAL job and I related to her character much more than I expected. I just watched their Charlie Rose interview and I have a newfound tremendous amount of respect for that girl. She is for real. And with the real life chemistry between her and Jake we all know they have and just their intellectual connection more i feel now more than ever before it's a fucking shame these two are not together. It's such a cosmic bitch slap.
The amount of humor in this film I feel was downplayed dramatically. It wasn't bad and unpredictable as the review said it was real actual grown up humor that had me laughing out loud.
To be true to what i said to vanessa, I did have a couple petitions but I will spare them from all of you in the interest of keeping the ISJ L&OD morale high.
Don't let the reviews fool you -- this is no Prince of Persia (no offense) it's something I thought was refreshingly realistic and you really can't miss the way Jake and Anne put skin on these characters. Zwick is a must work with for me once I get out in the production world! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Great review Katie. I'm very pleased you enjoyed it so much. I'm really looking forward to the humor. I'm watching "I love you Phillip Morris" and "Love and Other Drugs" next weekend, so now I'm getting very excited!
And I'm sort of glad the nudity and sex are not as overwhelming as they were said to be. I was worried that all of that would distract from the real value of the film - especially come Oscar time.
WHOOT.
V, I will shoot you a review first thing when I see it. (Is it okay if I call you V? LOL, Vanessa is just a long type. Hahhaa)

I have to say I know have a huge, huge, huge girl crush on Anne. I went for Jake, but Anne just stole my heart. I F-ing love her character, the way she dresses and her hair. GAH Maggie Murdock is amazing. The scene were Maggie's drinking and she knocks the glass over and screams and cries just pierced my heart. Strange as it is that was one of my top 5 favorite scene's in this movie. I totally agree with you after watching them together its a definite "cosmic bitch slap". These two are like made for each other. After watching this movie and getting a taste of these two together its making the whole Taylor situation worse.

Then again, I think what Jake and Anne have said multiple times is very poignant - acting and real life are very different. I think their chemistry on screen, given that their relationship is platonic off screen, is only a testament to how terrific they both are as actors. Everyone here knows I'm the biggest stan for Jake and Anne in a relationship, but even I have to believe that their chemistry is because of nothing more than talent. Plus, relationships are never cosmic to me. They're always rough and are always a ton of work.

Yeah you might be right, but then ( to quote benjamin button, which i watched last night) you never know whats coming for you. I would be happy if Jake dated anybody other than a certain blonde, but who am I to say what he should do?
This movie though is probably my second favorite movie of his. UGH I love Jaime and maggie. They really did make this movie what it is.

I don't know. I have hopes for this movie, but I'm not expecting LaOD to top BBM, Jarhead, or PoP for me...
But I'm keeping my mind open! I hope it surprises me!

So my "official" take has now been posted and...ack!!! I'm always the odd man out!! I really wish I'd liked it more. It wasn't that I *didn't* like it, it's that I didn't like it nearly as much as I was expecting to. But I'm going to see it again. And keep an open mind... (Please ignore me and continue to gush!!)

I want to see I Love You Phillip Morris too. That dude was in our county jail here in Houston a few times back in the 90's, & managed to escape from it a couple of times in non violent ways.
& I guess we will have to agree to disagree on LAOD, PG. I was surprised at your review, really. Or maybe I am just too much of a bleeding heart & get too emotionally involved in a story. I am curious to see other Jake fans' reviews now. I haven't seen hardly any here on this forum. I have seen a few on others, but not many. Five of my best friends here went to see it with me on Saturday & they all loved it. One of them gave it a high B+, but then it's not her favorite movie genre either, so I wasn't surprised at that. She also said she didn't understand Entertainment Weekly's review giving it a C+.

I think Becky and I were made for each other. I read your review and ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT YET WATCHED THE MOVIE, I have this creeping dread since the moment it came out that it is going to be disappointing to me. I've been so hyped for this film since May that it seems almost painful to me that I am so underwhelmed by it. It's as if all my excitement for the movie disappeared the moment it came out in wide release. I have no idea WHY I feel that way, I just do. I have this aching sensation that I'm going to walk out of that theater feeling ashamed that I didn't like it more.
BUT! I must keep a positive outlook and hope that I am joyfully surprised.

PLUS. I sort of feel from reading the *gasp* script for the film (which I illegally and shamefully downloaded online) that the whole story sort of read like a cheesy, run of the mill, Hollywood cliched romantic comedy that I could watch anywhere in any decade. Reformed sleazer? Check. "Atypical" free spirit? Check. Gratuitous nudity, breast, and possible penis shot? Check. Lots of angst and professions of love in long, drawn out chase scenes? Check. BUT I'M STILL GOING TO WATCH IT AND KEEP AN OPEN MIND, DAMN IT.
